1976 Songpan-Pingwu earthquake

The 1976 Songpan-Pingwu earthquake, magnitude 7.2, struck and in Sichuan, China on August 16, 1976. A M 6.7 and a M 7.2 aftershock earthquakes hit the same area on August 22 and 23. The earthquake struck with estimated population exposures of 1,500 at IX or greater and 5,700 at intensity VIII, resulting in 41 deaths.
